Select Partition Type - Creating A Logical Drive
As we have just created an extended partition, we will now have to create a logical drive.
So just click Next to continue. |
 |
Specify Partition Size
If you want to use the full capacity of your hard disk drive then you will only need to create the one partition. Leave the value for Partition size in MB as it appears and click Next to continue.
However if you want to specify the size then enter the desired size and click Next to continue. |
 |
Assign Drive letter or Path
The next available drive letter will be chosen and if you want you can also change it by selecting the new letter. However if you do not want to select a drive letter then check Do not assign a drive letter or drive path.
Click Next to continue. |
 |
Format Partition
The settings at this stage can be left as they are unless you have a reason to change them. One setting you can change is the Volume Label and if you want your own volume label then please enter it although it can be changed later on if you require.
If you are happy with the settings then click Next to continue. |
 |
Completing the New Partition Wizard
All of the settings that you have selected should be displayed and if you wish to change any of them then click Back to make any changes.
If you are happy with the settings then click Finish. |
 |
The partition should now start to be formatted and it will be given a drive letter. The time it takes to do this will depend upon the size of the partition. |
 |
Disk Management should report the status of the hard disk drive once the format and the assignment of a drive letter has been completed. |
 |
Taking a final look at My Computer reveals that the second hard disk drive can be seen and it should now be accessible. |
 |
As you can see creating partitions within Disk Management is very easy with help from the easy to follow wizards. You may want to experiment with partition sizes and types before you start to use your second hard disk drive for its intended purpose. As you may have noticed you will have to create an Extended partition before you can create a Logical drive and you can only have a maximum of four Primary partitions. Types and sizes of partitions can be mixed and its entirely up to how you use them. |
