How To Burn and Make Your New CD Bootable

We will now have to burn the contents of the XPCD folder, make the CD bootable by making use of the Microsoft Corporation.img file and to do this I will be using Nero Version 6.

Open Nero Burning ROM and choose CD-ROM (BOOT) for the type of CD.

We will only need to look and make some changes to the following tabs: Boot, Label and Burn whereas the Info, ISO, Dates and Misc tabs can be ignored.

The Boot Tab

Now to make the CD bootable we need to make use of the Microsoft Corporation.img file. To do this select Image file and you should notice that Browse has now become available. So click Browse to locate and open the Microsoft Corporation.img file. If this file does not appear in the Open Window then select All files (*.*) under files of type.

We will now need to enable some advanced settings and to do then click Enable expert settings (for advanced users only!) and these advanced settings will now be available.

Please change only the following settings:

Kind of emulation: No Emulation

Number of loaded sectors: 4

This is all that is needed to change and these changes and settings are important.

If you have followed the above correctly your Boot tab should be the same as in the image below:

The Label Tab

This is where you can give your CD a label name and there is nothing to special with this. As an example I labelled my disk XPSP2 but you can be as imaginative as you want with it.

Please change only the following settings:

Disc name: [Your Custom Label Name]

Please ensure that your Label tab resembles the following image with the exception of your custom disc name:

The Burn Tab

There is only an optional setting to change here and that is the burn speed. The maximum burn speed will depend on the write speed of your drive and the media you are using. There is no rule at what speed you should burn this CD so the lowest or highest that your writer supports will be fine.

Please change only the following settings [Optional]:

Write speed: [Lowest to highest that your writer and CD media supports]

Please click New to start a New Compilation.

Please ensure that your burn tab resembles the following image with the the exception of the write speed:

Select All Now under File Browser [on the right] locate and click on the XPCD folder and the contents of the folder should be displayed. Right click on one of the files or folders and choose Select All.

Copy to Compilation You should now have all of the files and folders highlighted in blue. Once again right click on a file or folder and choose Copy to Compilation.

ISO1 All of the files and folders should have been copied and should be visible under ISO1 [on the left].
